Bouteille de Pommard 1er Cru Arvelets 2017 Armand Heitz

Pommard 1er Cru - Arvelets

This is one of the estate's most emblematic cuvées. I have been working this terroir since 2013, my first vintage. It is a terroir with a unique personality, totally opposite to the cliché of a Pommard. This image of rustic and masculine wines is completely reversed by the elegance and finesse of Clos des Poutures. A light color that I like to keep that way. My philosophy is to reveal the terroir and not go against its personality. This disruptive side makes it one of my favorite wines.

Grape variety: Pinot Noir.

Site: Located to the south of Pommard and below the very famous Pommard 1er cru Rugiens, the Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Poutures is a monopoly of the estate.

History and tradition: It seems that the site of Pommard is that of the oldest wine-growing activities on the coast. Installed in this place for more than 2000 years, the Gauls would have selected and multiplied the Pinot noir there. A temple dedicated to the goddess Pomone would be the origin of the name of the village.

Soil: Composed of clay and silt, the soil is agronomically well balanced and easy to work. This fairly draining terroir makes it possible to produce fruity, complex and long-lasting wines on the palate.

Nevertheless, we remind you that: Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Consume with moderation.

Tasting Note:

"Modest color, like all the reds from this region. Nice depth. Whole bunches. Rose that develops on red fruits. Nice intensity, a complex personality, structured but tannins not very important. Super wine. To keep, but already great." Bill Nanson - Burgundy Report 2017

"The aromas of oak are evident, mixed with those of crushed strawberries, and a light note of raspberries. Long and pleasant finish" Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy 2018
