Pommard 1er Cru - Rugiens
The image of the Pommard appellation in general is totally influenced by the Rugiens: masculine, powerful, somewhat rustic wines. It is unquestionably the grand cru of Pommard! Always recognized for its personality and quality. This climate is characteristic for its power and the winemaker must know how to compose skilfully so as not to come across a wine that is too rustic.
Grape variety: Pinot Noir.
Site: The 1er Cru Rugiens is located south of the village above Les Poutures.
History and tradition: The Rugiens have been renowned and vinified in single cuvées for several centuries. They will be adored in the 19th century and considered with the Cortons as the best wines of Beaunois. This adulation faded in favor of the name of the village when it was not classified as a grand cru in the 1930s.
Soil: The Rugiens sector is entirely facing east and rises from a gently sloping area, rich in iron oxide, to a stony hillside with lighter soils and clear.
Nevertheless, we remind you that: Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Consume with moderation.
Aging potential: 10-15 years
Serving temperature: 16-18°
Food & wine pairings:grilled or confit red meat, aged cheeses
Tasting Note:
"A less open nose, but still with a slight aromatic complexity. Fresh, intense, delicious and in perpetual evolution. Right on the end, light tannins. Excellent, to keep a little longer than Pézerolles." Bill Nanson - Burgundy Report 2017
"Invigorating, straight wine. Good tension. Supple tannins, good intensity. Tasty." Sarah Marsch
