Volnay 1er Cru - Santenots

An original appellation of Volnay because it is located in the commune of Meursault. Volnay has this reputation for producing fine and elegant wines, and as for Taillepieds, we find here an intense and powerful terroir. In order to tame this masculine character, we sometimes destem this cuvée or choose barrels with a fresh toast.

Grape variety: Pinot Noir

History and tradition: High perched on the Côte de Beaune, narrow and sloping to leave all its ease to the vineyard, Volnay is backed by the small mountain of Chaignot. This Controlled Designation of Origin instituted in 1937 is accompanied by Volnay-Santenots produced in Meursault.

Soil: Very calcareous terrain. Then a white Aargau limestone descending the slope, light and chalky in appearance. Lower down, the Bathonian limestone is stony, ferruginous, reddish.

Nevertheless, we remind you that: Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Consume in moderation.

Tasting Notes:

"The nose is nicely airy, touched by rose petals, but far from powerful. The palate is full of energy, the breadth of flavor is very interesting here - the creamy depth of flavor from finish - the old vines. It's a lovely, lovely finish with a modest tannin accent - great Santenots."
Bill Nanson - Burgundy Report 2020

"A lighter, fresher purple color. A medium weight, with attractive fruit sweetness, a ripe strawberry that doesn't quite have the density of a Santenots-du-Milieu, but a balanced fruit all over the room." Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy 2020
