Santa Claus is not trash
Posted by Armand Heitz onDear Santa,
You are 1700 years old and your name is Nicholas of Myre. You were Turkish and not Finnish. It's not quite the same!
You have become known as a bishop, also because you appreciate the distribution of gifts and food to the most deprived. Abbé Pierre and Coluche did not invent anything.
1000 years ago, the Church canonized you. At a time when religious festivals had to take precedence over pagan festivals. It's fun to see things evolve. In recent times, the trend seems to have been rather reversed. It's sad to see that marketing has taken precedence over your noble values.
I am a farmer and every day I get up with the naivety of a child. This is preferable because a farmer who loses this naivety commits suicide every two days.
So, like a child, I am writing you a letter hoping that on the morning of the 25th, you will have been able to grant all my wishes:
- I would like agriculture to no longer be controlled by a few profit-hungry multinationals and for farmers to regain their rights. “ Fight against nature ”
- I would like direct producer hybrids like the Noah I bottled to be authorized again. “ How to solve the pesticide problem ”
- I would like us to stop producing ever more polluting tractors and start repairing old ones. After all, second hand in the fashion sector is on the rise. “ Chemistry or machinery ”
- I wish we would stop saying that drinking wine and eating meat is bad for your health or the planet. “ Animal welfare? My ass is chicken ”
- I would like people to say that prepared meals are a disaster and that the only way to eat well is to buy directly from the producer. “ From farm to fork ”
- I would like us to stop subsidizing solar panels and heat pumps and to subsidize the planting of hedges and trees. “ Farmer and architect ”
- I would like us to stop building houses on agricultural land and preserve our architectural heritage. “ Build tomorrow and live with the past ”
- I would like us to stop destroying our land. “ The land is dead, long live the land ”
Dear Nicolas de Myre, I thank you in advance.
